Elizabeth Swan founded Information Edge Pty Ltd initially as a joint venture with the State Library of NSW in 1989. Since 1996 Information Edge has been an independent private company when she acquired the State Library's interest in the company.

Elizabeth has had over 25 years experience undertaking online searching of Australian and International databases. Prior to establishing Information Edge, Elizabeth was manager of Australian Consolidated Industries (ACI International) Ltd’s (subsequently BTR Nylex Ltd) corporate information service from 1972 to 1988. Her department was responsible for providing marketing, technical and management information to ACI’s executives worldwide in a wide range of industry sectors. She introduced online searching to ACI in 1976, several years before major libraries such as the National Library, the State Library or CSIRO libraries began using these resources.

Prior to joining ACI, Elizabeth was an Assistant to the Director of Excerpta Medica, Amsterdam, Librarian at CSIRO Animal Health Research Laboratory, Melbourne, and had various special library positions in the UK and Australia. Her special professional interest is the swift, accurate transfer of knowledge.

Her research experience therefore spans many industries - manufacturing, packaging, food science, veterinary science, medicine, glass and plastics technology, building products, minerals, architecture.
